ThinkTN in the News: Judge to decide on excuse-free mail voting in Tennessee amid coronavirus fears

Chattanooga Times Free Press (June 4, 2020) — A judge will rule on Thursday whether to expand excuse-free absentee voting to any Tennessee voter who requests a mail-in ballot.

A lawyer for the Tennessee attorney general argued on Zoom on Wednesday that such an expansion of mail balloting would be too expensive to pull off this year and is not logistically feasible. Assistant Attorney General Alex Rieger also said the state is concerned about disenfranchisement because of voter error due to thousands of people possibly using absentee ballots for the first time.
