Edward L. Stanton III is a partner with the law firm of Butler Snow LLP. His practice focuses on Commercial Litigation and White Collar, Compliance and Government Investigations. He has
extensive civil and criminal litigation experience in both trial and appellate courts throughout the country.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Stanton was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2010 to serve as United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. His nomination was confirmed by unanimous consent of the United States Senate and he served in this capacity from 2010 to 2017.
As U.S. Attorney, he launched a number of highly successful initiatives including innovative reentry programs, Multi-Agency Gang Task Force and creating a Civil Rights Unit which his office
received national acclaim for its efforts in combating sex trafficking.
Before serving as U.S. Attorney, Mr. Stanton was Senior Counsel for the FedEx legal department’s commercial litigation team. He also served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Memphis and in private practice with two Memphis law firms.
Mr. Stanton has received numerous awards and honors including the Best of the Bar in Public Service Award by the Memphis Business Journal, the Trailblazer Award by Christian Brothers University and the A.A. Latting Award by the National Bar Association.
Mr. Stanton is a lifelong Memphian and graduate of Central High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Memphis. Mr. Stanton is married and has two children.
