State of Our State 2018 Policy Brief: Environment and Energy

Developed in partnership with the Southern Environmental Law Center, this policy brief addresses Tennessee’s performance in energy efficiency. It finds that Tennesseans consume and pay more for electricity than most Americans, and that the state lags behind others in production and access to renewable energy.

The brief also highlights policies adopted by other states that have been successful in increasing energy efficiency and reducing consumers’ energy costs by facilitating access to renewable energy sources.
