Representatives in the House rejected an amendment to temporarily expand absentee voting after brief floor debate.
Representative Lamar (D-Memphis) introduced an amendment to a proposed election bill.
Like the amendment introduced by Senator Robinson (D-Memphis) on June 2, Representative Lamar’s proposal sought to waive excuses for absentee voting this year due to concerns about Covid-19. House Majority Leader Lamberth (R-Portland) voiced opposition to the amendment and called a vote to table it.
The amendment failed with nearly three-fourths of House members (70-26) voting to table it, ending the discussion.
