Professor Tracey George holds an endowed chair at Vanderbilt University where she is a professor of law and political science. She brings a social science perspective to the study of judges and courts, judicial selection and elections, legal education and the legal profession, and contract law and theory. She recently published an influential study on the race and gender demographics of state judges called The Gavel Gap. She is a member of the American Law Institute, the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law.
Tracey is an active volunteer and community leader. She currently serves on Nashville Mayor Megan Barry’s Council on Gender Equity. She is the past board chair for Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee. She is the proud Big Sister of Little Brother Jayleen through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.
